Itching for Summer...

Today was such a gorgeous day; I woke up to a thunderstorm complete with loud crashes of thunder and lightening and buckets of rain. It was absolutely magical. It took me such a long time to get out of bed because of it, I almost missed my bus (oops!)
And then after the storm, it cleared up and the earth smelled so wonderful. It smelled like flowers, leaves, dirt, humidity, rain, everything the earth is supposed to smell like only intensified because of the rain.
But.... instead of enjoying this loveliness outside, I was stuck inside and being forced to dream of summer and playing the harmonica on the lawn.
Here are some photos to show my angst and love :) Floral is really speaking to me right now...

Yep! I did get this next picture from another blog! You caught me! But.... I found it on google images and not on the blog, so I feel like I'm ok... Anyways, the floral and pastels in this picture is really refreshing.

Had to put some Marie Anntoinette photos up! This post would feel incomplete with these!

Love, Art, and Other Laughs

These past two weekends have both been taken up with high school dances, Prom and Military Ball. At these dances, I didn't take any photographs. Yes, I had photos of my date and I together, but these photos were taken by someone else and not me. I found this rather sad and depressing. I rarely ever take photos when I should be documenting every little detail of my youth! So, I decided today, that I would take one picture every day. It can be more, but I'm starting out with just one. High school should have all these great photos of me doing crazy things and living each day to the fullest, but these pictures are taken by my eyes and stored in my memory and one day this will disappear and so will Nora Rickey. That's my biggest fear: one day being forgotten. So, I've decided that I will not be forgotten; I will be remembered by many.

Moving on....
Alli b and I went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to see a Titian show a few weeks ago with two other girlfriends and then met up at this fabulous, hipster restaurant called Shish with some guy friends. Truly one of the BEST days of my life :) We all got dressed up for the adventure, but unfortunately I only got some snapshots of Alli and I out in the rain. But before I show those, here's my favorite painting from the show.
The first one is titled, "Venetian Women at their Toilet” and it depicts two Venetian Courtesans getting ready. I just love how Titian painted their skin. It looks so soft and beautiful; it's truly amazing to see close-up and in person.

The next painting is titled, "Venus Anadyomene". Again, in this painting, the skin is absolutely beautiful. I also love how there's this light blue halo surrounding her body. It's very beautiful to look at, and adds all the emphasis on Venus.

Now, with the clothing!
Here's Alli and I in the rain, wearing absolutely fabulous outfits. I can only document for my clothes, but maybe Alli will tell all about hers.

Forever21 floral top
Irish Tweed Jacket that was my mothers
J. Peterman pants
Melie Bianco Turqouise Purse

I just love taking pictures in the rain! They turn out so cool!

Sad story:
I've had to retire my favorite Purse, the Melie Bianco one, because it's beginning to fall apart. I've had that purse since my freshman year in high school and I love it dearly. It's so funny, a woman's relationship with her purse. I've got a deep one with that purse. Oh well, I went purse shopping and found a beautiful black, woven leather replacement. Pictures will be coming soon...

Nora

50's Grunge

Hi everyone! Yeah.... Neither I nor Alli have blogged in a really really really long time.... I have excuses, but they all aren't good enough.

So, I discovered this fantastic site called polyvore.com. I love collaging, and this site is a form of collaging because you can put all these fantastic pictures together to make one awesome collage/ set! I had a lot of fun picking from a million different pictures under different categories like dresses, shoes, pants, etc... to make one great collage of clothes that I would wear!
In this collage, there are a bunch of different pictures. What I would do is put the 50s floral dress with the jean jacket, boots, and buddha necklace to make a cute outfit that is very unique. I would also replace the jacket with the turquoise cardigan, and then the dress with the top and pants.
The top and the pants together kind of reminded me of Audrey Hepburn in the scene in "Funny Face" when she is posing as a fisherwoman on the Seine river for the camera.

Now, here's my question to anyone who reads this: would these pieces make two different, cute outfits? Or was I totally off... I could only go by the pictures and not how they all look together, but in my imagination they worked together beautifully. Please let me know your opinion!
Well, I'm off to study for a HUGE AP US History exam next week. For all of you taking AP exams in the next two weeks, I wish you luck!

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room

Hello all!

Happy Saturday! Its been a fun week, spring break and all. I've been trying to get back to blogging on a regular basis, so here goes my final quarter of junior year resolution: Blog every other day at least, with at least one personal outfit post a week.

Lets hope I can do it!  So while I'm avoiding doing some lovely AP Biology notes, why don't I post about my day... yesterday. Today was uneventful, so I'll go back in time a little.

I went to yoga in the morning with my mom, so I ended up showering at yoga (it's becoming a habit recently). Then I realized that I didn't have rehearsal for the fist friday in a very long time, so I texted my friends and we got some nummy pie at baker's square and hung out, it was a pretty fun night (me, being a normal teenager for once? schocking!)!

Anyways, this is what I wore for most of the day, but not the evening as it got pretty chilly, so I resorted to yoga pants and a T-shirt, not my most original look if i do say so...

Forever 21 Sweater
Forever 21 Dress
Tights from...?
Boots stolen from my mom
Necklaces were a christmas present

My hair also was an adventure yesterday, where i finally gave up and decided to pull it into a classic flip bun-thing.

Apologies, Love, and Gratitude

Hi there, everyone!! Our apologies for leaving you hanging for so long. Nora and I have been ridiculously busy as of late. Nora is out on the East Coast visiting colleges!! I'm sure she will give a full report when she returns. However, as I am stuck here in Minnesota over spring break, I've found some interesting things to do. I've spent a lot of time with friends as well as frequented my yoga studio and ballet. Yesterday I went shopping! Unfortunately, I don't have a picture worth showing for this trip, seeing as I was tired and had big circles under my eyes from this whole daylight savings thing...

I do, however, have pictures of what I'm wearing today, including several new items :)
Shirt, jacket and necklaces from forever 21
Jeans from Nordstroms
shoes from target
bag from t.j. maxx

I'm in love with this jacket. its just enough military with just enough hipster to be perfect for me, because I can't do too much structure in a jacket. I'm a dancer, so I love to be able to move and be comfortable in my clothes. The beads are my new favorite thing, i got them to wear with my dress for the school dance and I find that I have been putting them in many of my recent outfits!

The shoes. Lemme just talk about how far $15 can get you. They are beyond comfortable and so cute! I found them in the back of a clearance pile at Target in oh say, September, and it was love. I'm so happy spring is here and I can wear them without tights!! (Obviously, the snow is still melting, but its getting there, ok?)

Finally, the jeans. Now, I'm not really a jeans person. I really prefer leggings or skirts to a pair of tight jeans, but these ones are actually so comfortable, minus the fact that they fit my thighs but not my hips. Wait, what hips? Yeah, thats what I'm talking about. Sometimes being tiny and dangerous has its drawbacks.

So anyways, I tried to put a little green in my outfit for St. Patty's Day, and I think I succeeded without being obnoxious.

Anywhoo, our apologies for being out of touch recently, we're getting back to our blogging kick as soon as spring break is over!! We love you all!

xoxo, Alli

Winter Dance!

So sorry I haven't blogged in about a week or so, it's just been really chaotic in my life with the quarter ending and I got this horrible cold that is still with me.
Anyways, enough about me (ha ha ha.) The last weekend in February was my school's Winter dance. The week leading up to the dance was our winter week, and the theme this year was board games. Each day had a dress up day theme, and my favorite day was definitely "Guess Who". I of course dressed up as my old history teacher, Mr. Sandell, who has the best fashion for a guy I've seen in a while. He's always dressing in tweeds, corduroy, button-down shirts, and my favorite days are when he wears his all-stars. But anyways, I dressed up like him, Alli dressed up like our french teacher, and our friend Grace dressed up like our chemistry teacher.
Here we are:

I'm doing the quintessential Mr. Sandell smile: stand on tip-toes and lean back, so great!
It was real fun because then Alli and I sat with the infamous boys club for lunch. The boys club is made up of the six high school teachers, and they all go into a spare room and have lunch together. They are like "Fight Club" because the first rule of the boys club is that you don't talk about the boys club. Basically, it was a really big deal Alli and I ate lunch with them.

Now here's some pictures from the dance:

Highschool Dance

So, as I'm sure you understand, high school dances can be a bit.. ummm. Awkward.

Lets just say that this past weekend was a little bit of that for me, but I got over it. The more important thing about the dance Nora and I attended this weekend was what we wore. I'm going to let her explain to you her dress (which I absolutely ADORED. She looked so beautiful), but I have to show you  mine.
Vintage Dress
Forever 21 Neclaces
BCBG shoes

So, if you havent been able to tell from this blog already, I am in love with vintage clothing. This dress was actually a hand me down from my neighbor, and she bought it at a vintage store. I saw the feathers and just about dieddd I loved it so much. (Sure the feathers aren't as intense as say, Alexander Wang's Fall 2011 rtw, but they look AWESOME)

I have to go study for an AP US History test... Wish me luck...

XOXO Alli

Prezi is Fantastic!

Hi guys! I know neither Alli or I have posted for a few days, my apologies for the both of us. This past weekend was a very busy one because we had out Winter Dance and then Oscars night last night! I will try to post tomorrow night about my dress to the dance as well as my thoughts on some of the Oscars outfits.
For the mean, enjoy a Prezi (the zooming presentation) about Christian Dior! French lovers will love this because it is all in French (sorry non-French speakers.) But for all that do speak and read French, my presentation gives a brief description of Dior's life as well as his fashion house under the direction of both him and John Galliano. Included are some fabulous pictures taken from both the 50's as well as now :)
Au Revoir!

Mary Katrantzou

This woman is fantastic; her designs are beautifully structured and the many different, bright prints she uses for her outfits work so well together it makes me cry tears of happiness. The structure of each design rivals Balenciaga's beautiful spring 2008 collection. As you go through each photo taken for her fall 2011 collection, you see a completely new look. The prints remind me of Ukranian eggs, Japenese and Chinese prints, and other various prints from around the world. This collection is definitely a global one that belongs in a museum. My question is though, did she print onto silk, or is there embroidery work done on the pieces? You can not tell from the photos. Here are some from the fantastic collection:

I love her work and cannot wait to see more collections!

80's Themes are Fantastic!!!

This past weekend, my friend had a party at her house and we were SUPPOSED to watch, "The Breakfast Club", the classic 80's film, but alas, we did not and instead went to Perkins. But here's what I wore for the occasion:

It was too cold to wear a skirt and tights, and I was walking to my friend's house, so I channeled the 80's and not necessarily "The Breakfast Club". I'm wearing:
My mom's "Michael Jackson" jacket from the 80's, black skinny jeans from H&M, and my cowgirl boots. Inspiration comes from:

"The Breakfast Club" gang, Molly Ringwald, Michael Jackson in his famous red jacket, Marc Jacobs grunge for Perry Ellis 1992.

The other day, I was looking at my wall of pictures, and my collage from my planner cover a few years ago caught my eye. Thought it would be fun to put on the blog, since collages include a lot of cool pictures in one. Unfortunately, I was unable to flip the picture the right way..... But here it is anyways!

If you are a very determined person and flip your computer to the side in order to view the collage, you will be able to see Adam Ant, Aygness Deyn, Sasha Pivovarova and Dhani Harrison, Bjork, Chanel, The Strokes, and various other pictures. I'll post more covers later, but I still can't get over how bright and colorful this collage is. Whenever I would look at it, even on the worst days at school, it would cheer me up.

Next picture is of me, early in the morning at school drinking hot mango black tea from Caribou Coffee.

I'm wearing an H&M tweed coat, H&M pink scarf, my iPod headphones, and the headband was knitted by yours truly out of really fantastic yarn that is dyed pink, blue, and purple. It really helps to keep my ears warm in this cold, Minnesnowta weather.
Speaking of Minnesota, here's the link to a really awesome song by rap group Atmosphere called "Shh". Enjoy!
